Gonzales

Gonzales used to be my dad’s bike, who replaced him with a more snazzy road bike after a couple of touring seasons.

He’s not speedy in the least, so the name is somewhat sarcastic. However, he’s a true workhorse, and has reliably carried me through my daily commute.

For this trip, Gonzales has been fitted with a front rack and new tyres, but apart from that and a few cosmetic improvements (red handlebar tape!) he’s pretty much in original form.

My philosophy is that I’m not fixing things that aren’t broken (or on their last legs). We’re cycling through two countries with a high density of local cycle repair shops first, so if anything proves unreliable or breaks down on the road, I can replace it then.

For the moment, he looks mighty fine!
